Administration troubleshooting
The messages you can meet in Administration, what they mean and how to fix them.
Messages and fixes
| Message | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 'This username already exists.' | Another user has this username, ignoring capitals. | Choose a different username. |
| 'A username is lower-case letters, digits and . _ - @.' | The username has a space or a disallowed character. | Remove spaces and symbols. |
| 'Use at least 12 characters.' | The password is too short. | Use 12 to 1024 characters. |
| 'Choose a password different from the one you have.' | The new password equals the current one. | Pick a new one. |
| 'Your current password is incorrect.' | The current password does not match. | Retype it, or ask an administrator to reset it. |
| '<name> already signs in as <username>.' | The employee already has a login. | Open the existing user instead. |
| 'This account is locked after too many attempts. Try again after HH:MM UTC.' | Five wrong passwords locked the account. | Wait, or an administrator resets the password. |
| 'This account is locked. Ask your administrator to unlock it.' | An administrator locked the account. | Ask for Unlock user. A password reset does not clear a manual lock. |
| 'This is an integration account. It cannot sign in here.' | The user type is API, Integration or Service. | Use an API key instead. |
| 'This account can be used from YYYY-MM-DD.' | Access starts is in the future. | Wait, or edit the date. |
| 'You cannot switch off your own account.' | You tried to lock, suspend or archive yourself. | Ask another administrator. |
| 'That is the last administrator of that company.' | The change would leave no administrator. | Make someone else an administrator first. |
| 'Only a superuser can change a superuser.' | A normal administrator tried to change a superuser. | Ask a superuser. |
| 'Somebody else has to review your access.' | You tried to review yourself. | Ask another administrator. |
| 'You do not have permission for this action.' | Your role lacks the permission. | Ask an administrator for the role. |
| 'A key belongs to an integration user (type API, integration or service), never a person.' | The chosen user is a person. | Create an integration user first. |
| 'A key ends after today and within 366 days.' | Ends on is outside the allowed range. | Choose a date up to 366 days ahead. |
| 'Keep the audit trail 5 to 50 years (GCC VAT records need at least five).' | Retention is out of range. | Enter 5 to 50. |
| 'Somebody other than the person who placed it releases a hold.' | You tried to release your own legal hold. | Ask a second administrator. |
| 'Somebody other than the person who proposed it approves a disposal.' | You tried to approve your own disposal. | Ask a second administrator. |
| 'Somebody other than its proposer approves it.' | You proposed this app configuration change. | Another administrator approves. |
| 'A protected control cannot be turned off.' | You tried to disable a protected feature. | Leave it on. |
| 'That key is already used on this model.' | The custom field key exists. | Choose another key. |
| 'That code already has a sequence.' | A sequence exists for that record type. | Edit it instead. |
| "The sequence '<name>' is switched off." | Numbering for that record type is inactive. | Tick Active on the sequence. |
| '<code> is not a bank or cash account.' | A payment method points at the wrong account. | Choose a bank or cash posting account. |
| 'Nobody approves their own request.' | The requester tried to approve. | Another approver decides. |
| 'Somebody other than its author activates a policy.' | The author tried to activate the draft. | Another person activates it. |
| 'Say why it is rejected.' | A rejection needs a reason. | Type a reason. |
Still stuck
Open the user's Audit tab, or Administration > Audit, to see who changed what and when. For a person who cannot see a menu, use Why? on Administration > Users > Access review.
